Brass Haptics: Comparing Virtual and Physical Trumpets in Extended Realities

چکیده
Despite the benefits of learning an instrument, many students drop out early because it can be frustrating for student, expensive caregiver, and loud household. Virtual Reality (VR) Extended (XR) offer potential to address these challenges by simulating multiple instruments in engaging motivating environment through headphones. To assess commercial VR augment musical experiences, we used standard implementation processes design four virtual trumpet interfaces: camera-tracking with tracked register selection (two ways), voice activation, a controller plus force-feedback haptic glove. evaluate implementations, created music classroom that produces audio, notes, finger pattern guides loaded from selected Musical Instrument Digital Interface (MIDI) file. We analytically compared implementations against physical trumpets (both acoustic MIDI), considering features ease use, familiarity, playability, noise, versatility. The produced most reliable familiar experience, some XR were considered. camera-based methods easy use but lacked tactile feedback. glove provided improved tracking accuracy feedback over methods. Each method was also considered as proof-of-concept other instruments, real or imaginary.

In our predominantly materialist culture we take it for granted that the physical world is real. But in what sense are experiences, thoughts and feelings real? And what about virtual realities? Are they physical, psychological, or somewhere in between? In the present chapter I examine: 1. the ways physical, psychological and virtual realities differ 2. the ways in which physical, psychological ...
متن کاملVirtual Museums and Virtual Realities
First, the artifacts on display are supposed to be real. For example, a real amphora is displayed and not its photograph or some other facsimile. There are many disadvantages to this practice: Some artifacts are too large, or may be incomplete, making their display difficult; expensive measures have to be taken to assure security for the artifacts; and the displays need environmental conditions...
متن کاملSynchronization in Virtual Realities
Interactive graphics, and especially virtual reality systems, require synchronization of sight, sound, and user motion if they are to be convincing and natural. We present a solution to the synchronization problem that is based on optimal estimation methods.
متن کاملHaptics Issues in Virtual Environments
Haptics is a recent enhancement to virtual environments allowing users to “touch” and feel the simulated objects they interact with. Current commercial products allow tactile feedback through desktop interfaces (such as the FEELIt mouse or the PHANToM arm) and dextrous tactile and force feedback at the fingertips through haptic gloves (such as the CyberTouch and the CyberGrasp). Haptics VR ...
متن کاملSpectral Discrimination Thresholds Comparing Audio and Haptics
Previous studies have been carried out concerning the ability of individuals with normal hearing to discriminate auditory stimuli which have the same fundamental frequency but different spectral content [5]. This study concerns to what extent is it possible to perform the same differentiation considering vibratory tactile stimuli. Being aurally able to distinguish between an A3 note played by a...
